A PSP agent was shot in the leg early Thursday morning while trying to stop a pair of burglars who were attacking his house under construction on Rua Cabeda in Ermesinde. The burglar was also shot in the pelvis and both were taken to hospital. The woman was taken to the police station.
According to an official PSP source, it all happened at 00:50. The officer was off duty at the San Mamede police station when he came across a suspicious couple near their home. He approached them and the men began to fight. During the fight, at least two shots were fired, the results of which are reported.
No other weapon besides the PSP’s was found at the scene, and it is possible that he was injured by an accidental discharge from his own pistol or that the assailant took it from the PSP.
