Iranian footballer Mehdi Taremi was officially appointed as a booster for Inter Milan this Saturday for three seasons until 2027, two weeks after leaving Porto in the Portuguese I League at the end of his contract.
Having scored 91 goals and 47 assists in 182 games over the last four seasons, the 31-year-old striker failed to reach an agreement to extend his contract with the Dragons and joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer, ending his association with football with seven titles – a league title, three Portuguese Cups, two Super Cups and a League Cup – and the status of top scorer in the I League in the 2022/23 season, after having already arrived at Rio Ave (2019/20).
“I am very happy to be here. It is a dream come true and I must say that this is the happiest moment of my life. The Italian league is one of the most prestigious in the world and I will try to do my best, as I have always done until now,” he said, quoted by the media of Inter Milan, winner of the championship and the Italian Super Cup last season.
Iran’s third-best ever scorer with 50 goals in 85 games, Taremi cost Porto €4.73m in the summer of 2020 but is now following in the footsteps of the once influential Marcano – who will eventually return in 2019/20 – Brahimi, Herrera, Aboubakar, Marega, Mbemba or Uribe, who have also left the Dragons on free transfers in recent seasons at the end of their contracts.
