According to figures released this Saturday by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, French authorities have already suspended 3,570 people from participating in the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris because they could pose a threat to the events.
According to the official, in a publication on the social network “X” (formerly Twitter), “770 thousand administrative investigations have already been carried out, as a result of which 3,570 people have been detained.”
Of those 3,000, 130 were removed because they were suspected of posing a threat to national security, 16 because of religious radicalization, and “several dozen” because they were “far-left and far-right radicals,” he said.
Investigations are being carried out on anyone who has any accreditation to participate in Paris 2024: athletes, technical specialists, volunteers, security guards, journalists or other related professionals.
Security for the Olympic Games, which open on July 26, has become a major political issue in the debate over Paris 2024, which will begin with a parade of 160 boats on the Seine in the heart of the French capital.
