540 of the 669 trains scheduled to run until 2pm were stopped due to the KP strike.

The CP workers’ strike, organized by several unions, has already led to the suspension of 540 trains out of 669 scheduled between midnight and 2 p.m. today, an official with the carrier said.

Thus, the extinguishing rate has already exceeded 80% during the minimum maintenance (129 trains).

According to CP – Comboios de Portugal, long-distance trains were not running and no minimum service was set for the operation.

In regional traffic, 142 trains out of 172 scheduled were cancelled. In the Lisbon metropolitan area, the strike led to the cancellation of 235 trains out of 300 scheduled, while in Porto, 107 out of 139 scheduled trains were cancelled.

Only two trains out of about 18 were running in the Coimbra city districts. CP workers are on strike today and will strike again on Wednesday at the initiative of several unions.

The arbitration court set a minimum service fee of 20% for urban and regional trains.

The Arbitration Court’s decision applies, in the above-mentioned percentage, to the regional and interregional lines (Minho, Douro, East, West, Beira Baixa and Northern lines – in the latter case to Coimbra/Entroncamento and back) and the urban line (Azambuja, Coimbra and Guimarães lines).

“For customers who already have purchased tickets for travel on Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, international, interregional and regional trains, CP will allow a refund of the total cost of the purchased ticket or its free exchange for another train on the same route of the same category and class,” CP said in a statement.

These workers were already on strike on June 28. It is “unacceptable” for the unions that the Communist Party administration, which guaranteed the extension of the agreement concluded with the union organization to all workers, wants to make this a condition for accepting the proposed provisions on the career. The government, the Communist Party and the National Union of Portuguese Railway Engineers (SMAQ), which called a strike from June 27 to July 14, which was suspended, recently reached an agreement.

The operator also reached an agreement with the Union of Commercial Rail Transport (SFRCI) on a career review, including a 1.5% pay rise and an increase in food allowance to €9.20.

Fectrans said the proposal “increases the versatility of functions and does not take into account salary scales”, which it said was a “strategic measure” to recruit new workers and retain current ones.

CP, for its part, accused the unions that have called a strike to take place today and Wednesday of “harming their members” by refusing to reach an agreement, according to a statement released by the rail carrier today.
