Nors group warehouse workers receive guaranteed wages after Porto fire

Warehouse workers affected by Monday’s fire at Nors Group’s facilities in Porto have been released from work with guaranteed pay, with the “vast majority” working in offices, the company said on Tuesday.

According to a statement sent to Luse on Tuesday, Nors Group employees “carrying out operational functions in the affected warehouses will be exempted from reporting to work for the time being, while ensuring that their remuneration is maintained.”

“The vast majority of the approximately 140 people who work in the offices and warehouses of the three companies are working from this Tuesday in the two buildings of the group on Rua Manuel Pinto de Azevedo,” the same statement said.

At stake are teams “from the Porto offices of Auto Sueco Portugal, Aftermarket Portugal and Amplitude Seguros, Nors group companies”, who “started on Tuesday to implement a business continuity plan following the fire” at the fair on Monday.

Classifying the fire as “the worst incident in the group’s 91-year history,” all teams are “working to restore normalcy as quickly as possible, even though it is anticipated that there may be service restrictions on these three companies for the coming days.”

The fire is still of “unknown origin,” according to the business group.

On Monday, a fire that broke out at the Auto Sueco complex in the industrial area of Porto brought more than 100 employees to the scene, supported by 45 vehicles from three corporations in the municipalities of Porto, Matosinhos, Maia, Pedrusos and Areosa – Rio Tinto.

The fire alert was issued at 1:38pm and was reported to be “completely out” by 6:30pm.

This Tuesday at 9:30 am, nine firefighters from Sapadores Firefighters of Porto remained on site, carrying out consolidation and recovery work, supported by three vehicles.
