The 16th leg of the women’s surfing competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which includes Portugal’s Yolanda Hopkins, has been postponed again due to poor weather conditions, organisers announced on Tuesday.
“Technical delegates are expected to decide on the colour code trends for the next session,” the Olympics’ official website said, adding that today’s competitions were suspended due to a code red, which means a minimum 24-hour break.
When racing resumes, Portuguese surfer Yolanda Hopkins will face Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy in the eighth and final heat of the Round of 16.
In the men’s group, eight athletes who will compete in the quarter-finals have already been selected and are also waiting for the necessary “green light” from the organization to participate in their races.
The women’s surfing competition is scheduled to take place until Wednesday in Teaupo’o, French Polynesia, more than 15,000 kilometers from the French capital, but the waiting period could extend until August 5.
Yolanda Hopkins is the only Portuguese to compete after Teresa Bonvalot was eliminated in the second round.
