Boavista SAD paid off a debt of 700,000 euros on Tuesday to allow the renewal of the players’ contract registrations, a source at the First League club told Lusa on Tuesday, which had been prevented from registering players for four transfer windows.
Having fulfilled all the requirements inherent in the licensing process for the 2024/25 season with the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP), the Panthers “recently cleared national obstacles” to allow the re-registration of players who were already linked to the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) until July 22, a deadline determined by the organization.
Earlier this month, Boavista officially announced the signing of Nigerian international midfielder Ibrahim Alhassan, who had ended his contract with Birschot and was promoted to the Belgian top flight, and Brazilian striker Bruninho, who was on loan from Atletico Mineiro but never joined. FIFA has stopped blocking the registration of new players due to debts.
“The issue of FIFA transfer barriers [com 30 restrições em vigor] – This is a serious task facing the new administration. We understand the impatience of our creditors, but this is a complex process and it is very difficult to resolve. However, the board of directors is making every effort to resolve this matter, understanding that the task is not easy and the path will be long,” he assessed.
According to De Telegraaf newspaper, Dutch runners-up Feyenoord are preparing to file a complaint with FIFA against Boavista, which will be in debt to almost one million euros (ME) from 2023, related to the final transfer of Robert Bosenick.
Loaned to the Rotterdam club two seasons ago, the Slovakian international striker was acquired by the Panthers last summer when they activated a continuity clause in his contract for €850,000, with the Dutch retaining 15% of any future sale.
In an effort to pay off debts and lift FIFA restrictions in a timely manner, the Bessa club recently sold right-back Pedro Maleiro to Turkish side Trabzonspor, receiving two fixed MEs in their pocket, plus €500,000 for goals, as well as Nigerian center-back Chidozie to American side Cincinnati for €700,000, €500,000 of which was fixed.
Boavista begin their 62nd and 11th consecutive Liga I appearance on August 10 with a visit to the Casa Pia stadium in Rio Maior for the opening round of the 2024/25 season.
