The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) approved this Saturday at an extraordinary General Assembly (AG) a legislative change that establishes the proportion of people of each gender in the composition of governing bodies, as provided for by law, the organization said in a statement.
At the general meeting held in Aveiro, President Fernando Gomes proposed to already apply a minimum representation in corporate bodies of 33.3% of each gender, but the partners preferred to maintain the transitional regime of 20% until 2026.
This amendment to the Legal Regime of Sports Federations (RJFD), which came into force on February 16, stipulates that the proportion of people of each gender “in each administrative and control body” of federations and leagues “may not be less than 33.3%”.
With the entry into force of this law and in accordance with the transitional rule, all federations will have to have a fifth of people of each gender represented in elections that take place from today, and from January 1, 2026, this figure will increase to a third.
According to the same law, non-compliance renders the act of appointment of these bodies invalid, and these violations must be remedied by the General Assembly.
At the same General Assembly of the FPF, the inclusion of pedestrian football and eSports football in the organization was approved.
