Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial were appointed video referees for the Champions League third qualifying round clash between Dynamo Kyiv and Rangers on Tuesday, but that all changed early this morning. According to Polish media, the two referees were arrested by police with alcohol in their blood and for stealing a road sign…
The incident occurred at around 1:43 a.m. in the city of Lublin, Poland, with two judges immediately arrested – in addition to one other person present – after causing a disturbance, as well as being charged with high levels of alcohol – Frabkowski reported having 1.7 grams and Musial 1.8 grams.
Both referees were later taken to a rehabilitation centre by the authorities and are no longer on the list of referees for today’s game between the Ukrainians and the Scots. As a result, UEFA appointed another Polish duo to act as VAR for the match: Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Pawel Malec.
The Polish Arbitration Council also issued a statement saying it would analyse the conduct of the two judges to consider possible future punishment.
