The mayor of Setúbal said this Thursday that the last 31 residents of Quinta da Parvois have been waiting for a year for temporary housing, but he said he was confident that the problem would be resolved quickly.

“We are trying to find a collective solution in terms of space for these 31 people,” said Andre Martins (CDU), explaining that the residents in question live alone, which means that all other residents who lived with family members have already been temporarily relocated .

According to the mayor of Setúbal, the city council, as well as the IHRU (Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation) and the Ministry of Housing are working to meet the housing needs of the 31 people in order to proceed with the demolition. away from the Quinta da Parvoíce stalls as quickly as possible, but it was not easy to find an alternative.

“This problem has existed for over a year. This is due to a commitment the City Council has made with IHRU, which has committed to paying housing costs for these residents to be placed in T1. housing. during the transition process until new construction is completed,” said the mayor of Setúbal, who spoke before the agenda at the open session of the House of Setúbal.

“We know that the cost of T1 has increased significantly. No (standard apartments) T1. The Council of Setúbal, who remained with this “boy in their arms, did everything in their power to find a solution”, he added André Martins.

According to the mayor, the goal of the organizations involved in this process – the municipality, IHRU and the Department of Housing – is to relocate these 31 residents and quickly begin the demolition of tents and the process of building new homes in that space. .

To address the shortage of decent, affordable housing in the municipality of Setúbal, the city council last December approved a €36.6 million public tender to rehabilitate 455 residential buildings in the Bairro da Bela area. Vista.

Two months earlier, in October 2022, the municipality of Sadina had already approved the opening of another public tender for 10.6 million euros for the restoration of 38 buildings in the Bairro da Alameda das Palmeiras area, also in the Bela Vista area.

At the end of 2021, Câmara de Setúbal announced a global investment of €297 million to build/rehabilitate 3,722 residential buildings by 2030 through the PRR-funded Local Housing Strategy, Recovery and Resilience Plan.

In addition to the construction of a total of 538 new subsidized and reduced income dwellings, it is planned to rehabilitate 1,875 municipal and 1,274 private dwellings through activities covering a total of 414 buildings.
