Montenegro’s performance in Pontal marks SDP’s political comeback

The speech by Prime Minister and Social Democratic leader Luís Montenegro at the usual Festa do Pontal festival in the Algarve marks the political “return” of the PSD at the end of the day.

The PSD is the first party to win a seat in the Assembly of the Republic, marking its return to political activity with a traditional initiative on a social democratic agenda, usually joined by several party figures.

The Festa do Pontal, which this year will feature a concert by José Cid, will begin in the late afternoon in Calçadão de Quarteira, in the municipality of Loulé, and will culminate in a performance by Luís Montenegro.

Before the intervention of the leader of the Social Democrats, the President of the PSD/Algarve, Cristóvão Norte, speaks.

Last year, during the PSD’s political comeback, the party was in opposition to the PS’s absolute majority, but after Operation Influential Man and the dismissal of António Costa, early elections in March brought victory to the coalition led by Luis Montenegro, who now arrives in Pontal as Prime Minister.

Upon returning from the holidays, the SDP also plans to hold the regular Summer University in Castelo de Vide, which will take place from August 26 to September 1.

After the PSD, the next party to make its political debut will be Chega on August 22, also in the Algarve, with a dinner in Olhão where President André Ventura will speak.

Two days later, still in the Algarve, the Liberal Initiative will “return” to Quarteiro with another edition of the party’s “Agosto da Liberdade”, which will feature a speech by President Rui Rocha.

The largest opposition party, PS, will make its political comeback with a speech by Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos scheduled for September 1 in Tomar, the municipality that housed the Socialist Academy from August 28 until today.

BE is once again organizing the Forum of Socialism from August 30 to September 1 in Braga, an initiative that includes the former President of the Parliament Augusto Santos Silva, the journalist and former leader of the blockade Daniel Oliveira, as well as the MEP and former Spanish minister Irene Montero, among others.

Festa do Avante!, the festival that marks the launch of the PCP, will take place from September 6 to 8 in Atalaia, Amor, Seixal, with performances by musicians such as Sérgio Godinho, Capicua, Valete and Cristina Branco, in an edition featuring several shows dedicated to the 50th anniversary on April 25. An important political moment is the final rally with the intervention of the Communist Secretary General Paulo Raimundo.
