A total of 10 districts in the centre and south of the country will be under a yellow heat warning from Thursday, with it expanding to three more districts in the inner north on Friday.
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the areas of Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon, Setúbal and Faro will be under yellow warning, the least serious, from 9am on Thursday (until 6pm on Friday), as well as Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora and Beja, where the warning will last until 00:00 on Saturday.
From 9am on Friday, IPMA is adding a yellow heat alert to the areas of Guarda, Bragança and Vila Real.
These days, only the areas of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro and Viseu remain without warning.
A yellow warning is issued when a risk situation arises for certain activities due to weather conditions.
A slight increase in maximum temperatures is expected this Wednesday, especially in the north and inland areas of the Central Region.
Castelo Branco, with temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius, will be the hottest area, with Aveiro, Sines and Sagres (24 degrees) the coolest, but temperatures will start to rise from Thursday and are expected to fluctuate between 38 degrees and 40 degrees inland.
