A 65-year-old man died this Monday while swimming in the sea in the area of São Martinho do Porto in the municipality of Alcobaça after a heart attack.
A drowning situation was reported in the late morning, with a rescue ambulance from the Caldas da Rainha Volunteer Firefighters and an ambulance and resuscitation vehicle from INEM sent to the scene.
When rescue teams arrived at the scene, the man had already been pulled from the water by people in the area. Resuscitation efforts were initiated, but to no avail, death was confirmed on the spot, and the body was taken for an autopsy. A group of the Nazaré Marine Police was also at the scene and took responsibility for the incident.
The man was reportedly on holiday in the area and it could not be determined whether he was alone or with family or friends.
