Students under 19 years of age can renew their pass in the Navegante app in a dematerialised way, and the payment period will be extended, meaning that there is no longer a need to validate the pass every month.
In a statement released this Friday, Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa, the company that manages the Navegante pass, explains that young students “no longer have to go to shops and stand in line to renew their pass at the beginning of each school year,” and can handle the process via mobile phone.
So, in the Navegante app, anyone under 19 simply needs to renew their pass and it will be valid until the end of the month in which they turn 19 or until the card expires, which is five years.
For those over 19, proof of school attendance must be provided at the start of the school year, but the pass is valid for one year and does not require a fee each month.
