Socialist Party President Carlos César will speak this evening on the first day of the Socialist Academy, which will run until Sunday in Tomar, with the opening attended by MEP Marta Temido and former minister Duarte Cordeiro.
The third edition of the Socialist Academy, a training and political reflection initiative aimed at 80 young people between the ages of 18 and 30, will this time be held in Tomar and will end on Sunday with a speech by the leader of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, from the politics of “rentre”, the first since he has been at the head of the Socialist leadership.
In addition to this speech by the PS Secretary General, the most striking event is the return of former Prime Minister António Costa to the PS initiatives with a speech scheduled for Saturday’s dinner of the Socialist Academy.
This Wednesday, the spotlight will be on PS President Carlos Cesar, a guest at a dinner on the first of five days that this training initiative will last.
Before Carlos César’s speech, the highlight will be the opening session at 18:00, which will feature speeches by the head of the PS list in the last European elections, MEP Marta Temido, former Minister Duarte Cordeiro, Secretary-General of the JS Miguel Costa Matos and the President of the Chamber of Tomar, Hugo Cristóvão.
“The third edition of the Socialist Academy will be partly aimed at preparing the next local elections, so participants will be asked to think about public policies that allow them to respond to the challenges of the host municipality of Tomar,” PS said in a note sent to Luse.
On Thursday, young participants will have the opportunity to listen to a speech by Giacomo Filibeck, Secretary General of the European Socialist Party, or to take a lesson on “Housing Policy” with the President of the Chamber of Matosinhos and the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP), Luísa Salgueiro.
After visiting the Convento de Cristo e Obras in Rio Nabão, the day will feature a dinner with former BE MP Ana Drago and a comedy evening with Jovem Conservator de Direita.
The following day, Friday, the guest at the dinner will be the leader of the PS parliament, Alexandra Leitao, but before that, during the day there will be a program with classes on the economy or territorial cohesion – the latter with the former minister of the region, Ana Abruñosa – or even on the environment, which marks the second participation in this Socialist Academy of the former minister Duarte Cordeiro.
The highlight of Saturday will be the speech given at the dinner by António Costa, but until then, the participants of the Socialist Academy will have other activities to attend, including a simulation of the Assembly of the Republic, which will feature the participation of the deputy Pedro Delgado Alves.
Also on Saturday, there will be a visit to the Museum of National Resistance and Freedom in Forte de Peniche, accompanied by José Pedro Soares, who was a political prisoner in this prison from June 1973 to April 1974.
On the morning of the last day, which will end with a “rentre” speech by Pedro Nuno Santos, the participants of the Socialist Academy will still have time to present their group work.
