The Judicial Police (PS) dismantled a drug laboratory in Santa Maria da Feira, Aveiro district, arresting three suspects involved in its activities, it was announced on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the SP published on Wednesday, the investigation managed to obtain “the location of an isolated warehouse in Santa Maria da Feira, where a large ‘laboratory’ was operating, designed to process cocaine paste and cocaine hydrochloride.”
As a result of the investigation, “three suspects in crimes related to drug trafficking under aggravating circumstances, criminal association, money laundering and document forgery”, two foreigners and one Portuguese, were arrested and will be brought to the judicial authorities for questioning and the use of coercive measures.
“The initial investigation focused on illegal activities carried out by a foreign national” who allegedly sold drugs “under a fictitious name under which he owned a commercial company.”
The man “used apparently legal schemes to use funds and rent premises where, in a secret and apparently legal manner, he could carry out international drug procurement and processing activities.”
He adds that during the searches carried out by the SP, the objects of the search were houses and warehouses, “noting the presence of a large quantity of materials, hundreds of liters of chemicals, gasoline, acids and other substances, as well as an entire structure and accessories capable of producing, in a continuous daily process, from five to 10 kilograms of cocaine.”
“The operation also resulted in the seizure of coca paste and cocaine in quantities estimated at approximately 15 kilograms, enough for 75,000 individual doses, as well as tens of kilograms of precursors and drug substances,” P.J. also states.
The operation, called “Crystal Laboratory”, was carried out by the Braga Criminal Investigation Department, with the cooperation of the Northern Directorate, with the participation of experts from the delegation of the Scientific Police Laboratory and with the cooperation of the Polish People’s Republic.
