This Sunday, Prime Minister Luis Monteiro congratulated Miguel Monteiro on his Paralympic title in the F40 shot put and expressed his “pride” for winning Portugal’s first medal in Paris 2024.
“It’s gold! Another great result from Miguel Monteiro, who is currently competing in the Paralympic Games in Paris, which fills us with pride, with a record performance that brings Portugal its first medal. Congratulations!” Montenegro wrote in a message published on the social network X.
This Sunday, Portugal’s Miguel Monteiro became the Paralympic champion in the F40 shot put at the 2024 Paris Games with a throw of 11.21 meters, a new competition record.
Miguel Monteiro, a diminutive athlete who won bronze at Tokyo 2020, led for much of the competition, which saw Mongolia’s Battulga Tsegmid take silver (11.09) and Iraq’s Garra Tnaiash take bronze (11.03).
The Portuguese athlete, who started the competition with a zero throw, “grabbed” gold in the third event with a result of 11.21 after 11.02 in the second.
The world record holder (11.60), the Portuguese, scored 11.00 on his third throw, 11.17 on his fourth and zero on his last.
Miguel Monteiro’s medal is Portugal’s 95th medal in 11 Paralympic appearances, its 26th gold.
