MP and blockist leader Mariana Mortagua will hold a press conference on Monday at the BS National Congress, where she will present her candidacy for the post of leader of the party.
According to a notice sent to journalists, Mariana Mortagua’s press conference for the main meeting of the party is scheduled for 10:30 am at the BE headquarters in Lisbon.
On February 14, when Catarina Martins announced that she would no longer be BE’s coordinator for the next National Convention, Lusa learned from a party source that MP Mariana Mortagua was to be the bloc’s leader candidate.
Mariana Mortagua, who has been in Parliament since 2013 (replacing Ana Drago), was born in 1986 and is an economist, she has been the face of the party in parliamentary committees to investigate the banking sector and in discussions on the state budget, among other dossiers.
Also on Monday, but in the afternoon, a press conference is scheduled at the party’s headquarters, which will present another proposal entitled “Plural bloc for the left alternative – a challenge that we can defeat!”, signed by names such as Veteran UDP Mario Tohme. , former deputy Carlos Matias or Ruy Cortés of the Convergência movement.
According to the calendar of the XIII National BE Congress, Monday at 17:00 is the deadline for submitting orientation proposals to the Organizing Committee of the Congress.
When she announced her resignation at a convention scheduled for May 27 and 28, Katharina Martins expressed “absolute calm” that there were people “with ability, strength and training” to replace her in office, awaiting the congress with a “unity decision in parties.”
The still leader of BE stated that the decade during which she was in charge of BE’s destiny was a period of “wins and losses”, explaining that “what has changed now” was “the instability of the absolute majority” and that the crisis, ” multiplied within the government and shaken by the popular struggle, is a sign of the end of the political cycle.”
Katharina Martins has been in the leadership of the Bloc since November 2012, at that time in partnership with João Semedo when they were elected coordinators of the Bloc de Esquerdes, then in an unprecedented “two-headed” leadership, a model abandoned two years later, to the next national congress in 2014.
