Group of seven Portuguese and Spaniards arrested for aggravated theft and criminal collaboration

A group of seven people, Portuguese and Spanish, have been arrested for stealing items worth more than 300,000 euros from commercial establishments and the criminal community, the PSP said on Monday.

A statement from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command PSP explains that following an investigation into theft practices in commercial establishments across the country, seven citizens of Portuguese nationality have been detained between October last year and the present. Spanish language.

During the investigation, PSP identified “an organized group of individuals” who during 2019 and 2020 carried out “several burglary thefts at high-end bicycle stores and industrial equipment and tool stores”, while high-value bicycles were stolen. as well as bicycle accessories and industrial tools.

The PSP has established “an unequivocal link from this group to several thefts” resulting in the seizure of over €300,000 worth of items, while still suspecting the authorities that this group may be responsible for the theft of over €1 million worth of goods.

According to the memo, the investigative arrangements were “very complex” and were developed in close cooperation with the Seville Civil Guard “by exchanging information and carrying out operational activities in both countries, culminating in various arrests.”

Authorities also determined that the group used heavy vehicles rented in Spain, then moved to Portugal, where they carried out thefts at pre-selected stores, before driving the theft back to Spain, where it was scrapped.

During the investigation, the authorities of Portugal and Spain found “several stolen bicycles”, which in the meantime were delivered to their owners in the amount of several thousand euros.

After the first judicial interrogation, two of the seven detainees, “on strict charges of crimes of aggravated theft and criminal conspiracy”, were placed in a pre-trial detention center, while the rest were subject to periodic presentations, a ban on contact with each other and a ban on leaving Portuguese territory.
