Seven Borussia Dortmund fans arrested Tuesday night in Lisbon for contempt in Bairro Alto have been released and ordered to stand trial on December 9, a PSP source told Lusa this Thursday.
After the PSP intervened to end the unrest in the area’s nightlife, two police officers were slightly injured and seven supporters were arrested.
On Wednesday, a Cometlis source also told Lusa that the riots began on Tuesday at 11:40 pm on Rua da Atalaia, when “50 fans of the German club Borussia Dortmund started throwing various objects, including chairs, tables.”
The same source said clashes also took place outside the Joao Rocha pavilion in Lisbon after a handball match between Sporting CP and AEK on Tuesday.
“After the game, 30 people took part in the clashes. Six fans were injured, five of them were treated on the spot, and one was taken to the hospital,” he said.
After the riots interrogated by Lusa, the president of the Association of Bairro Alto Residents, Luis Paysana, again demanded more checks and security in the area.
Bairro Alto Merchants’ Association President Hilario Castro again requested a “concrete plan for the protection of the area”, even though unrest had lessened with the reopening of nightclubs and the “normalization of nightlife”.
“The situation is much better, it is improving and getting better. Now there is a problem that has not yet been solved, this is the lack of police, which we have been complaining about for a long time,” he said.
Fans of Borussia Dortmund arrived in Lisbon to watch the Champions League game against Sporting on Wednesday.
