The Archdiocese of Braga preemptively removed a priest on suspicion of child sexual abuse.
This priest, who is between 40 and 50 years old, appears on a list of eight people in an envelope with reference to Braga, which the Independent Commission for the Study of Sexual Abuse in the Portuguese Church delivered on the 3rd to the Conference of Portuguese Bishops.
Of that list of eight, the archdiocese said in a statement, three have already died.
At the same time, one of the names does not appear in the archives of the archdiocese, the other is a pastoral agent, whose identity has not yet been established, one corresponds to the priest against whom civil and canonical proceedings were initiated and who was acquitted, and the last corresponds to the priest, in respect of whom the canonical process was completed, as a result of which the current disciplinary measures were applied.
