The Moroccan woman has been charged with two offenses of qualified fraud and another of faking a car rental case that she intended to take to Morocco and not return, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
According to the Lisbon prosecutor’s certificate, it follows from the prosecution that the defendant (until October 2019) traveled to Portugal in order to rent cars from rental companies and then take them outside the national territory, namely to Morocco. , with no intention of returning them at the end of the contract.
Thus, according to the prosecution, on October 17 and 18, 2019, the defendant rented two cars from different companies, then leaving at different times from the port of Algeciras towards Ceuta. In both cases, the cars did not return to Spain and did not officially enter Morocco.
A few days later, the defendant filed a complaint first with the GNR in Tavira for the theft of one of the cars and then in Spain for the theft of another car.
The indictment also alleges that when one of the car rental companies contacted a Moroccan citizen to find out the location of the car and the reason for its non-return, the defendant justified himself to the affected company, saying that the car was towed by the police. , undertaking to send the corresponding key by mail.
Later, the defendant actually sent a car key, but it did not match the rental car.
The investigation was led by the Department of Investigations and Criminal Affairs of Lisbon.
