Guinea-Bissau asks Cape Verde for support in cooperation with the European Maritime Operations Center

Teresa Alexandrina da Silva, Minister of Justice and Human Rights of Guinea-Bissau, asked today in Praia Cape Verde to support the country so that it also collaborates with the Maritime Analysis and Operations Center – Narcotics (MAOC-N).

“Yes, because with the modern challenges that we face, it is more than necessary to have this closeness with MAOC-N, given the weaknesses of our country and the trend of trade by sea, so Cape Verde, being a cooperating country of MAOC-N and taking in view of this closer relationship between Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, it never hurts to seek the support of Cape Verde from MAOC-N in this regard,” the minister said.

Teresa Alexandrina da Silva is on a four-day visit to Cape Verde, and one of the first items on the agenda was a working meeting with her colleague from Cape Verde, Joana Rosa, with whom she discussed various issues related to cooperation between the two countries. ., but also at the multilateral level.

The Center for Maritime Analysis and Operations, based in Lisbon, is an initiative of six member states of the European Union and the United Kingdom, co-funded by the EU Internal Security Fund.

Cape Verde has conducted several counter-narcotics operations with the support of several international organizations, including the Maritime Narcotics Analysis and Operations Center (MAOC-N).

The Minister of Justice of Cape Verde assured that the country is taking on the role of establishing contact with this European organization in favor of cooperation with Guinea-Bissau, as well as with Senegal, as they are neighboring countries on the West African coast.

“Cape Verde works closely with the MAOC, it supports us in several cases of drug seizures, and this joint cooperation with Guinea-Bissau and Senegal would be great. organization.

“Guinea-Bissau has all the conditions to also be a cooperative state,” said the official representative of Cape Verde.

The Guinean minister is in the country to experience the experience of Cape Verde in several areas such as prison management, asset management, children in conflict with the law through the Orlando Pantera Center in Praia.

The program also includes meetings with several other institutions related to justice, such as the General Prosecutor’s Office, Judicial Police, Praia Central Prison, Registry Office. Casa do Cidadão, Division of Financial Information, and at the end a memorandum of understanding will be signed in the framework of judicial cooperation between the two ministries.
