Lula da Silva cancels trip to China after new medical

Brazilian President Lula da Silva, who was diagnosed with bacterial and viral bronchopneumonia at dawn on Friday, canceled a trip to China that was due to start this Sunday. The cancellation was announced by Brazil’s president after Lula, 78, was re-examined by a medical team this Saturday morning.

“After today’s reassessment, and despite clinical improvement, the Medical Service of the President of the Republic is recommending that travel to China be postponed until the cycle of transmission of the virus is complete,” said a medical bulletin published earlier this Saturday afternoon in Brasilia. , signed by Dr. Ana Helena Germoglio, one of the president’s doctors, and which served as the basis for the decision to cancel the long and tiring trip to this eastern country.

Lula’s trip to China, accompanied by a gigantic retinue of about 300 people, including 240 businessmen, was scheduled for this Saturday morning. Following the confirmation of Lula’s case of pneumonia early Friday morning, the start of the trip was delayed until Sunday morning, but the president’s health meant that this new date was also delayed, now with no prediction of when it would occur.

After being diagnosed by doctors at the Sirio Libanes hospital in Brasilia, Lula remained at his official residence, the Palacio da Alvorada, with orders to rest. Lula, who was advised to be treated with oral antibiotics, decided to administer the medication intravenously, believing it would speed up his recovery, but it didn’t work, and, even with a medical prescription to rest, he received several ministers on Friday afternoon. and Congressional representatives attempting to resolve or leave important matters ahead of a trip that could have jeopardized his full recovery.
