A 38-year-old man was arrested for possession of 14 claws and four dandelions, the fruits of illegal hunting, which he intended to sell in the center of the Mozambican city of Beira, Mozambique’s criminal police said on Tuesday.
“The citizen was arrested on April 14 at the scene of the crime,” said Alfeu Sitole, a spokesman for the National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic) in Beira, in the center of the country.
The suspect claimed to have received a hunting product from the hands of one person to pass on to another, with the promise of receiving sums of money, the amount of which he did not name.
He stressed that after his arrest, he could now be charged with murder and illegal possession of prohibited species.
According to Sitole, the suspect has been committing this type of crime for a long time, even selling goods of the same nature to citizens of the city of Maputo.
“Currently, work is underway to find more involved,” he concluded.
