On Tuesday, a Braga court applied pre-trial detention to two alleged astrologers suspected of committing “various crimes” of qualified fraud with a “Euromillions ticket winning scheme,” a Judicial Police (PJ) source said.
According to the joint venture, suspects aged 51 and 32 have already managed to obtain about half a million euros through this scheme.
The suspects were detained on Monday in Barcelos as they prepared for a new scam.
The source explained that the defendants created a “mystical environment” and chose the victims “manually”.
“The victims have always been people with property and psychologically more vulnerable,” he said.
The suspects claimed to have a €30 million EuroMillions winning ticket in France and promised to help the victims achieve the same luck in exchange for large sums of money.
“There were those who gave them 160,000 euros,” a source told PJ.
The facts have happened since 2018 in the Barcelos area.
Meanwhile, the Judicial Police are continuing their investigation to identify other situations and victims “because it is assumed that the suspects have repeatedly engaged in this type of crime.”
