Obra de Marta is born to help those in need

A year ago, CMTV “He lived the saddest day in his history.” Commemorated by Cofina Managing Director Carlos Rodriguez in honor of journalist Marta Louro, who died in an accident at work on April 27, 2022. Despite the pain, the family wanted to honor the memory of the young woman and leave their brand behind. for the future. The way was found by “Obra de Marta”, a social project that originated in the Volunteer Fire Department of Colares, where Marta Louro worked.

“This project concerns the most vulnerable people of the Colares parish. Firefighters, parish center, Salvation Army, parish council, Sintra Chamber and GNR will be on site identifying the people most vulnerable and in need of support. In fact, this is the same job as Martha, when she brought information to people’s homes every day. We want to commemorate Marta, and we did this by creating Obra de Marta,” explains Pedro Louro, the journalist’s father and CEO of the corporation.

In practice, when firefighters are faced with dangerous situations, especially elderly people who are in a vulnerable or isolated situation, the case is identified and one or more Obra de Marta partners are called in and put their experience and resources at the service of the project.

Carlos Rodriguez sponsors this initiative and remembers the young woman for whom being in the service of others, as a firefighter or a journalist, was an unshakable value.

“Martha gave viewers a daily, unwavering work ethic that only comes from the family that gave her these values. Today is Marta’s memorial day and obviously CMTV, Correio da Manhã and I will give this project all our love. This is a way to perpetuate this memory and thank Martha for everything she taught us. It’s a very difficult moment for the director because we’ve lost ours.”

The work carried out by Obra de Marta is initially intended to support around 200 people and can be followed on social media as well as on the website of the project, which was launched this Thursday.
