According to the governor of the region, on Saturday in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, a fire broke out in a fuel depot as a result of a drone strike.
“According to preliminary information, a drone became the cause of the fire,” Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev wrote in the Telegram messenger.
Sevastopol has been the target of multiple airstrikes since the Russian invasion in February 2022, according to Reuters.
The Ukrainian army did not respond to a Reuters request for comment. Kyiv rarely publicly claims responsibility for attacks inside Russia or on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine.
Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev said no one was hurt. “The situation is under the control of our firefighters and all operational services,” he wrote. “Since the amount of fuel is large, it will take some time to contain the fire.”
Sevastopol is an important city in Crimea (a peninsula reclaimed by the Russians from Ukraine in 2014) and home to an important Russian navy in the Black Sea.
