Bulgarian ultramarathon runner Krasse Georgiev will live in a glass box for 15 days in a park in Sofia, Bulgaria, to raise funds to help young people fight addiction, Reuters reported.
Georgiev, a motivational speaker and charity ambassador, has run nearly 30 ultramarathons around the world, from the Arctic to Cambodia, and also ran 217 kilometers in California’s Death Valley.
“I want to challenge myself. I want to show that when a person is placed in a box, they change psychologically,” Georgiev told Reuters.
Funds raised will be used for various addiction prevention projects among children under 18, including drugs, alcohol, digital media and energy drinks.
A box with three glass walls is mounted on a plinth in front of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. Georgiev, who started the experiment this Sunday, will have a bed and a treadmill and will not have access to books, a computer or a phone. You can only speak to the public for 30 minutes a day.
“It’s not a physical experience, it’s a psychological experience,” he said.
In 2019, Georgiev traveled 1,200 kilometers in Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Albania to urge governments to build better infrastructure to connect people.
In 2003, American magician David Blaine spent 44 days in a closed transparent box suspended over the banks of the Thames in London drinking only water, which was criticized by the media and the public at the time.
