Jeffrey Hinton, one of the most responsible for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) at Google, left the American company, regretting the work done.
“I console myself with the usual excuse that if it weren’t for me [a desenvolver a IA] someone else would have done it,” Hinton told the New York Times.
The Google specialist has worked for the California company for more than ten years. He was responsible for the technological progress that allowed the creation of virtual assistants such as “ChatGPT”.
Hinton is wary of AI being used by “malicious” people. “It’s hard to figure out how to prevent people with bad intentions from using [a IA] for bad things. Compare AI five years ago and now. It’s scary,” he told the American newspaper, stressing that in the coming years, work will continue on the development of these services.
Through a Twitter post, Jeffrey Hinton argued that his resignation was justified not by an opportunity to criticize Google, but by a warning about the risks of technologies that Google uses “responsibly”.
