“There are days when the uprising is very great. No news, no nothing. Everything is almost the same as on the first day. These are the words of Jacinto Correia, father of Marlon, who was shot dead by thieves in the Queima das Fitas hall in Porto exactly 10 years ago this Thursday.
For all these years, justice has not been able to find those responsible for the death of a young student who at that time was 24 years old. The criminal process was archived at the end of 2021. A few months later, the Supreme Court acquitted the Academic Federation of Porto in a civil suit.
The crime happened on May 4, 2013. Marlon was with his friends at Queima das Fitas when he was taken by surprise by a group of robbers who wanted to steal a safe of money. While trying to escape, the student-athlete was shot in the back.
The crime was recorded by CCTV cameras, but even this did not help to find the perpetrators. Aggressive groups were even investigated by the authorities and six people were charged. However, the investigation was fruitless.
