Fenprof declined to meet this Monday with the Ministry of Education before it was over and accused the guardianship of being anti-democratic in its punishment of teachers involved in the public workers’ strike in March.
The meeting had been going on for more than two hours when Minister Joao Costa took the floor. Before finishing, the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof), one of the nine to be heard, left the room.
This is the strike called by the United Front for 17 March, coinciding in schools with an indefinite strike called by the Union of Educational Workers (Stop), which was still going on. For the second, minimum services were set, but not for the first.
According to Mario Nogueira, the Minister of Education confirmed that the teachers who went on strike that day were subject to unreasonable absenteeism and disciplinary action.
