The Democratic Alliance (SDP/CDU/PPM) won the legislature with the shortest margin of victory in the history of democracy for a second party – 54 thousand votes or 0.85 points. By joining Madeira (PSD/CDU), the center-right received 28.83% of the votes and 80 deputies. The PS came second with 27.98% and 78 deputies. This was at the 2005 level.
AD, with 28.83%, had the same percentage as the PSD in 2005, when it ran alone under the leadership of Manuela Ferreira Leite. 1.5 MILLION
According to Lusa, the largest difference in legislative votes between the PSD and the PS (1.5 million) dates back to 1987, when Cavaco Silva won his first absolute majority. The SDP received more than 2.8 million votes against approximately 1.3 million for the PS.
