The General Synod of the Church of England voted this Thursday to bless same-sex couples in civil unions and marriages. The decision was announced at a church house in Westminster, UK, after nearly eight hours of debate over two days in what is known as “church parliament”.
According to the news portal, in addition to supporting the blessing proposal, the Synod agreed that the church should apologize for the harm it has caused LGBTQ+ people. bloomberg and also put forward a hypothesis about the revision of the ban on the clergy from entering into same-sex civil marriages and the rules of celibacy for the clergy in same-sex relationships.
Thursday’s decision does not change the stance on same-sex marriage, and same-sex couples still cannot marry in church.
