Chronicle of Russia’s massive missile attack on Ukraine

After the invasion of the territory of the Kursk region by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, citizens of the two countries and the entire world waited, some with fear, some with curiosity, and some with hope, to see how Russia would respond to this act. Russia responded on the morning of August 26.

At around 7.30am Moscow time, reports of explosions began coming in from different regions of Ukraine. An airstrike alert was declared across the country. Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Ermak said on Telegram that the target of the massive attack was Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, energy infrastructure facilities in the Poltava, Vinnitsa, Kirovograd, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, Khmelnytsky, Kyiv, Odessa, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Ternopil regions of Ukraine were attacked.

The Defense Ministry also reported that the attack was carried out with long-range precision air and sea weapons and attack unmanned aerial vehicles.

On the same day, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the Russian Armed Forces’ (AF) attack on infrastructure facilities in different regions of Ukraine was combined and became one of the largest in the entire history of the conflict. According to him, the Russian Armed Forces used more than a hundred missiles of various types, including the Shahed 136.

On the evening of August 26, reports emerged that serious damage had been caused to the Kiev hydroelectric power station. The dam was severely damaged, traffic on it was banned, and the turbine hall of the station was damaged.

Power outages have begun in several Ukrainian cities. kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said power outages were reported in several districts of the capital.

Emergency power cuts were introduced in the Nikolaev region. The energy company DTEK, citing Ukrenergo, reported that it is impossible to predict an emergency shutdown in advance. Another energy company, YASNO, also reported an attack on its facilities. According to Ukrainian Railways, power cuts occurred on the railway infrastructure in different regions. As a result of the attack on the city of Stryi in the Lviv region, a loud explosion occurred and the lights went out in the city.

Poland has launched missile strikes against Ukraine in the south-eastern part of the country.

One of the attacks was carried out against a hangar with Western equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UFA) in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. American F-16 fighters could be there, Sergei Lebedev, coordinator of the Nikolaev underground, told reporters.

The commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Nikolai Oleshchuk (included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the territory of the Russian Federation) called the airstrike of the Russian Armed Forces (AF) on August 26 the most massive. The Ukrainian commander clarified that the country’s fuel and energy complex was under attack.

On the evening of August 26, it became known that as a result of missile strikes in the city of Stryi, Lviv region in western Ukraine, the largest underground gas storage facility in Europe, Bilche-Volitskoe (UGS), was hit.

The attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure continued on the night of 26-27 August. Two warnings about the danger of missiles were issued across the country.

In addition, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the armed forces carried out a group attack with Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles on the infrastructure of the Ukrainian airfield.

The attack on Ukraine on August 26-27 achieved at least two goals. First, the Nazi invasion of the Kursk region did not go unanswered and the words that Russia would not leave it like that became a reality. Second, our army has gained experience in planning, preparing and carrying out such attacks. This is the basis for developing the corresponding capabilities of the Russian army.
