Seu Serra, 55, was found dead Monday morning in her car on the EN118 highway in Quinta da Arrezima, next to the Chamusca bridge. The incident was reported to authorities at 10:00 a.m. when a driver moving along the road noticed a car overturned on the side of the road.
Authorities quickly determined that the accident happened some time ago, as the woman had been dead for several hours. Traffic at the site was adjusted so that relief workers and GNR soldiers could work safely, and remained so until approximately 12:00 pm, when traffic was restored.
Seu Serra was the 15th fatality in the country in the past week, according to GNR. Between 00:00 last Monday and 00:00 Sunday, GNR recorded 1,323 accidents resulting in 14 deaths, and this accident in Chamusk increased the number to 15. The accidents that occurred last week resulted in serious injuries.
