At least seven people died in the collapse of a building near Cairo

At least seven people were killed this Monday in a residential building collapse in the Egyptian capital, state media reported on Monday, adding that rescue teams were on the scene.

According to the MENA news agency, rescuers recovered at least seven bodies from the rubble of a four-story building located in Hadaek el-Kubba, on the outskirts of Cairo.

At the moment, four people have been removed from the rubble of the building and taken to the hospital.

The police cordoned off the area to facilitate access for rescuers.

The reasons for the collapse of the building are unknown, a frequent situation in Egypt due to the poor quality of building materials and the lack of repairs, especially in the most disadvantaged areas of the country.

In recent years, the government has tried to counter illegal housing construction by building new towns and relocating residents from buildings that are in danger of collapsing.
