A fire in a building in Porto left nine people homeless on Friday. They all lived in the same apartment. One of the evacuees will stay with a family member, while the other eight were sent to the Social Assistance and Monitoring Service.
The flames destroyed the apartment building. The fire reached the roof and attic of the building, as well as the roofs of three neighboring buildings.
The scale of the fire was recorded on amateur video by neighbors. Despite the presence of the device, there are no reports of injuries.
The alert was issued to the Zapadores Fire Battalion and Porto Volunteers due to a fire on Rua Duque de Bragança in Bonfim.
According to the Civil Defense website, about 20 operatives and seven vehicles were mobilized to the scene, arriving at 15:25, and an increase in resources was requested. The rapid intervention of firefighters prevented the infection from spreading to the entire city area.
The port’s PSP was also deployed to support firefighting operations.
By 4:00 p.m. the fire was declared extinguished.
