This Friday, 37 new radars will appear on Portuguese roads, 12 of which will monitor the average speed. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (ANSR) hopes this will translate into fewer crashes and deaths.
“Radars do help reduce speed. In these places, the number of accidents with injuries decreased by 36%, and the number of fatalities decreased by 74%. There is a clear correlation between the presence of radars, speed reduction and accident rate. We hope that these radars will also contribute to rescue the lives of people moving on our roads,” says organization president Rui Ribeiro.
In a conversation with Lusa, the ANSR leader assures that “everything is ready” for the start of work of 37 radars, to which 25 more will be added in the near future, there will be a total of 62.
