Lusoponte earns 3.7 million per kilometer

Bridges over the Tagus are one of Portugal’s most profitable infrastructures. With just 24 kilometers under management, Lusoponte recorded more than 90 million euros in toll revenue in 2022, representing more than 3.7 million euros per kilometer. The country’s largest concessionaire, Brisa, achieved revenues of 581 thousand euros per kilometer, for a total of almost 640 million euros.

These accounts naturally do not take into account either the cost of investment or the cost of maintenance, which in the case of bridges is much higher, but still show the annual income of the concessionaire from the two crossings of the Tagus in Lisbon.

Just like CM He has already moved forward. According to data published by the Portuguese Association of Highway and Bridge Concession Companies, the 21 companies operating this type of infrastructure collected more than €1,100 million in tolls last year (see box below).

The total length of the national motorway network is 3,321.9 km, in which approximately 478 million euros were invested in 2022. In this context, Brisa stands out, with an investment of approximately 204 million euros. In second place is Globalvia (A23 Beira Interior) with an investment of 35.6 million euros.
