The National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) has issued a warning to the public due to the forecast of bad weather in the coming days, warning of the possibility of urban flooding, flash floods and landslides.
The notice calls for ANEPC to “adopt appropriate behavior” to mitigate the effects of severe weather, including unblocking drainage systems, securing loose structures, and using caution when driving near trees due to the possibility of falling branches due to wind. , avoid driving near coastlines and coastal areas, do not engage in activities involving the sea, drive with caution and do not drive through flooded areas.
Fourteen of the 18 areas of mainland Portugal will be under a yellow warning due to forecasts of rain and wind from midnight on Monday, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) announced.
In a statement released today, IPMA also placed the areas of Vila Real, Viana do Castelo and Braga under a yellow warning level due to the possibility of periods of rain or downpours, sometimes heavy, from 12:00 to 18:00 on Monday.
According to the IPMA, a yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
A yellow warning for Lisbon County is in effect on Tuesday from 00:00 to 12:00 due to the forecast of periods of rain or showers, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds from the southern quadrant with gusts of up to 75 km/h, in the mountains up to 100 km/ h.
Due to the same weather conditions, the IPMA has issued yellow warnings for Vila Real, Viana do Castelo and Braga, but these are valid from 00:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday.
In Bragança, Viseu, Porto and Aveiro, yellow warnings for precipitation and wind are in effect from 00:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday.
For the Santarem area, IPMA has issued a yellow warning for precipitation, valid for Tuesday from 00:00 to 18:00, and another warning for wind, valid from 00:00 to 18:00.
The Leiria area also has two yellow warnings from 00:00 Tuesday, one for rain until 12:00 and another for wind until 18:00.
Castelo Branco has two yellow warnings from 00:00 Tuesday, one for wind until 18:00 and another for rain until 15:00.
Like most other areas, Coimbra has a yellow warning for wind until 18:00 and another warning for rain until 15:00.
On Tuesday, the Guarda area is under a yellow warning for wind from 00:00 to 18:00 and another warning for precipitation from 3:00 to 18:00.
In the Setúbal area, only a yellow warning for wind is in effect from 00:00 to 12:00 on Tuesday.
The severe weather across the north on Friday evening and early Saturday morning caused 294 incidents, including 223 flooding in homes and roads.
The main events recorded were flooding of houses, restaurants, elevators and garages, landslides, and falling buildings and trees.
