Viana do Castelo, Braga and Vila Real are under a yellow warning due to heavy rain

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the areas of Viana do Castelo, Braga and Vila Real will be under a yellow warning this Monday due to the forecast of rain, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.

These three counties will be under a warning from 12:00 to 18:00 this Monday, and then from 00:00 Tuesday to 00:00 Wednesday.

The IPMA also issued an orange warning for the entire coast of Portugal due to rough seas and a yellow warning for 14 areas due to rain that could be heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.

A forecast of bad weather for the next few days prompted the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) to issue a warning to the public on Sunday about the possibility of urban flooding, flooding and landslides.

The notice calls for ANEPC to “take appropriate measures” to prevent the effects of bad weather, namely unblocking drainage systems and repairing loose structures.”

He also asked to be careful when driving near trees due to the possibility of branches falling due to wind, to avoid driving near coastlines and coastal areas, not to engage in activities involving the sea, to drive with caution and not to cross flooded areas.

In a message published on Monday, the IPMA indicates that the areas of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Setúbal, Beja and Faro will be under an orange warning level due to the forecast of westerly waves with a height of 4.5 up to 5.5 meters. with a maximum height of 9 meters from 06:00 to 21:00 on Tuesday.

These counties will then be under a yellow warning from 9pm Tuesday until 3am Wednesday.

Regarding rain, IPMA has issued it for the areas of Porto, Aveiro, Viseu, Coimbra, Leiria, Bragança, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Lisbon and Santarem from 00:00 to 15:00 on Tuesday.

A yellow warning will also be in effect for 14 districts and Setubal on Tuesday from 00:00 to 18:00 due to the forecast of strong winds from the southern quadrant with gusts of up to 75 kilometers per hour and up to 100 kilometers per hour. in the highlands.

An orange warning indicates a moderate to high risk meteorological situation, while a yellow warning is issued by IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
