Heavy rains that have been falling in Vila Real since September have partially destroyed Fatima Alves’ sidewalk near her home in the village of Escariz, Arroca. Her husband has been a paraplegic for ten years and uses an electric wheelchair, but a hole in the walkway prevents him from leaving the house.
“It started with a very small fountain and the sidewalk started to rise a little bit. The rain was torrential, we have been talking about this since September 9,” explained Fatima Alves. CM. “I ask you to help me and pave the way so that my husband can pass and have the full dignity to go to a cafe for a walk and make his life normal,” she added.
The heavy rain also caused leaks on the ground floor of the couple’s home, damaging appliances.
The parish council of Adufe and Vilarinho de Samarda says it has already alerted the Vila Real city council about the situation.
