Infrastructures of Portugal completes the first PRR project in Santo Tirso

The road connection to the industrial zone of Fontiscos and the redevelopment of the Hermida intersection in Santo Tirso are the first works of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) to be completed, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) said on Monday.

The implementation of this project, representing an investment of 3.2 million euros, was aimed at improving road accessibility to industrial areas, enhancing road safety conditions and reducing travel times, creating a more direct connection between the (A)3 motorway and the industrial Fontiskos zone. The statement emphasizes that this will contribute to the development of the economic structure of Santo Tirso, as well as the development of the local economy and the export potential of the established companies.

Completed last week and now available, the work also aims to attract new investment and stimulate economic growth and job creation in the region, IP highlights.

IP states that “PRR work worth more than €280 million has already been completed, is under execution or is under contract.”

“Currently, we have started 19 works within the framework of the PDP. Of these, one project has been completed, 11 are at the stage of concluding a contract and seven are already being carried out on the ground,” the message emphasizes.

Seven field works are carried out on the national road (EN)14: Maia (diagonal) / Rodoferroviario da Trofa interface, additional route 35: Penafiel (EN15) / Rance, EN344: Pampilosa da Serra between kilometers 67,800 and 75 520, connection to the Mundan Industrial Park – removal of restrictions on EN229 Viseu/Satao, access to the industrial zone of Riajos, option EN248 (Arruda dos Vinhos) and improved accessibility to the industrial zone of Campo Mayor.

Also in a statement, the Porto District Council explained that in No de Fontiscos the works included transforming access to the business district into a level roundabout, providing improved traffic conditions and traffic management in connection with the municipal road network, while in No da Hermida , a roundabout has also been created at the intersection of the spurs north of EN104 and the aforementioned junction.

In addition to improving road accessibility to Santo Tirso’s two largest business districts, the project has enhanced road safety conditions and reduced travel times by creating a more direct connection between the A3 intersection and the Fontiscos business area, emphasizing autarky.

Quoted in a statement from the municipality to Mayor Alberto Costa: “In terms of accessibility, this was one of the most important works carried out in recent years in Santo Tirso, which considered itself absolutely strategic for the efforts to create a favorable environment to attract private investment and the growth of companies already located in two business zones.”
