Civil Defense is conducting a public exercise today to prepare for seismic risk

This Tuesday, Civil Protection is holding a public exercise to raise awareness of seismic risk. The action lasts one minute and includes three gestures: lower, defend and wait.

The exercise, called “A Terra Treme” (www.aterratreme.pt), will take place this Tuesday at 11:14 am and is organized annually by the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) in collaboration with a number of government and public organizations. private organizations and aims to ensure that the population knows how to act in the event of an earthquake.

Through this initiative, ANEPC intends to educate the public on what to “do before, during and after an earthquake, namely, know what preventive measures and self-protection rules to take.”

According to Civil Protection, the exercise involves “performing three simple gestures that can make a difference for those who perform them in the event of an earthquake.”

ANEPC specifies that the action lasts one minute, during which participants individually or collectively (families, schools, companies, public, private or associations) are asked to perform three self-defense gestures: load, protect and wait.

Across the country, the Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Teams (CREPC) and the Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Teams of the ANEPC will partner with local educational communities, fire departments, Municipal Civil Protection Services and other civil protection agents to raise awareness about raising awareness on the topic of seismic risk and self-defense measures, as well as the conduct of the Terra Treme exercise.

Although the initiative has a national expression, ANEPC, together with the Directorate General of Education (DGE) and the Directorate General of School Establishments (DGEstE), is promoting the main event at Escola Secundária Dr. Francisco Fernandes Lopes in Ollana.
