This Thursday morning started with rising temperatures, indicating that the cold will be replaced by rain. The truth is that from 7 am the hurricane hit the areas of Aveiro, Porto, Braga and Viana do Castelo.
In Vila Praia de Ancora, at about 8:30 a.m., a car became stuck in water that flooded the tunnel. The driver and vehicle were rescued by local firefighters in less than an hour.
Flooding has snarled vehicle traffic in Viana do Castelo, especially near the Eiffel Bridge, where water levels rose by about half a meter and led to the closure of some streets.
But the biggest problems this Thursday occurred in Póvoa de Varzim, namely in Praça do Almada Square and Joaquim Martins da Costa Street.
About 40 incidents were recorded between late morning and midday. Businesses in Praça do Almada were flooded, requiring the intervention of firefighters. Rua Joaquim Martins da Costa was impassable due to high water levels.
“When I opened the door, I immediately got my feet wet, water even entered my house. My neighbors’ garages were also flooded,” he explained to the publication. CM resident Jorge Teixeira.
The Básica do Desterro school was also partially flooded, causing classes to be suspended.
