Immediately after 12 calls at the Centro Materno-Infantil do Norte in Porto, Lucas was born weighing 3450 kg. He is the son of Sandra Silva and Rui Pedro, who live in Gondomar. “It makes everything even more special. From now on, there will also be birthdays on New Year’s Eve,” Sandra said. Lara was born in Viseu Hospital weighing 48 centimeters and 2495 grams. “It took a while to be born, but he was born at the right time, I am very happy,” says Silvia Fernandez, 31, a resident of San Romao, Seia. “I’m a firefighter and that helped me cope with the birth,” says father Pedro Valentim, 32.
Not all children were born in hospitals. Matilda, from Minde, Alcanen, was born in an ambulance on the A23 motorway, near the Zibreira intersection, Torres Novas, at 7am yesterday, at a time when the maternity wards in Abrantes and Leiria were closed. He is the second child of Ana Lebre and the fifth of Francisco Nunez, who was present during the birth outside the car. The birth took place with the support of the INEM Abrantes medical team. Matilda was born weighing 3.045 kilograms and was admitted to Leiria Hospital with her mother after the emergency obstetric service resumed. In Abrantes, the maternity ward remains closed due to the fire.
In Lisbon, the first child this year will be a girl. Her name is Ellie, she was born at 00:04 in the Alfredo da Costa maternity hospital. He is the first child of Diana Fernandez and Michel Sobrado.
