The inspectors of the Judicial Police (JP) will hold an additional strike from April 1, unless there is a decision on this issue by the national leadership and the Ministry of Justice.
In an interview with Lusa, Carla Pinto, President of the Union of Criminal Investigators of the Judicial Police (ASFIC/PJ), warns that the lack of regulation of the work carried out from 17:30 to 9:00 “is a problem that has existed in the SP for more than 20 years,” stressing that this work should be duly paid and subject to prior escalation by scientific inspectors/police experts (EPCs).
“At the moment we are not on strike, the strike will be from April 1, if there are no negotiations. What we are doing is that in early operations, a person is put on preventive or picket duty for work, which is what the law says. As of April 1, if there is no solution to the problem, this is a sign that it will no longer be in time to resolve it by 2024. That is, it will already go to 22 years of delay,” he said.
Carla Pinto uses a personal example to explain how the SP inspectors’ hourly pay for overtime is below the national minimum wage.
“Next Saturday, I will be working 24 hours a day, and this service that I am going to perform will be paid at the rate of 3.68 euros per hour. The law specifies that at the national level there is a guaranteed minimum monthly wage that is based on the minimum wage — and we do not receive the minimum wage — and the same law says that at least the hourly rate must be 4.65 euros. And I will receive 3.68 euros,” he said, noting that the hourly rate for overtime work should even be increased.
Without specifying the cost, the president of ASFIC/PJ added that the amount required by the guardianship to cover these charges should amount to “several million euros”, and recalled that the inspectors put obligations to citizens ahead of their own interests.
“For 20 years the inspectors have put the common good ahead of their own interests, and 20 years is enough. The time has come when people must stand firm on their own, it is not advisable to continue such work. But from the national leadership itself pancreas. You must be aware of the urgency in resolving this problem, ”he notes, adding that a meeting with guardianship is scheduled for February.
“ASFIC/PJ is not fighting, not least because we believe that the negotiations will take place and we hope that they will be successful. Now we are asking for compliance with the law, because we have been waiting for this for 20 years,” he concluded.
The restrictions on the activities of the judicial police were put forward this Monday by Diário de Notícias, citing an official source from the national leadership of the SP, to ensure that the demands of the inspectors are carried out with “commitment”.
According to an ASFIC/PJ communiqué sent to staff this Monday, and to which Lusa had access, the union body decided as of Friday to drop “all pre-planned additional work with the researcher/EPC that was not previously scheduled for picketing or prevention.” . From March 1, there will be a “waiver of all overtime” unless the ordinances are regulated, and finally an overtime strike after April 1.
