A 33-year-old pharmacist was released after being arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of theft and computer fraud. According to the PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Command, the suspect took debit cards from a group of elderly people who frequented the pharmacy and stole about 20 thousand euros.
“By cunning and taking advantage of the weaknesses associated with old age, the suspect watched as the victims entered their PIN codes and owned the cards. Later, at the ATM, he made transfers and payments in his favor,” he adds. in a PSP statement.
CCTV cameras in the pharmacy allowed the police to confirm that the suspect committed the crimes.
“Through interviews with various victims and witnesses, as well as documentary analysis related to bank statements, it was possible to establish that the suspect stole about 20 thousand euros from all victims,” the statement said.
After conducting searches, authorities seized several documents, banknotes worth 900 euros and a car purchased with part of the money taken from the victims.
The man was present at the first interrogation; a coercive measure was applied to him in the form of two weeks of performances and treatment for gambling addiction.
