More than 136 thousand beneficiaries of the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly (CSI), financial support aimed at the poorest pensioners, have already benefited from an immediate discount on the purchase of reimbursed medicines, the Social Security Institute said in a statement this Monday.
The immediate rebate became effective September 25, 2023 and automatically exempts CSI beneficiaries from paying the 50% non-government reimbursement portion of drug costs.
Before this date, seniors with CSI had to request reimbursement and wait for it to be processed and paid along with pension and solidarity co-payment, after presenting a bill for purchasing drugs at the health center.
The solidarity supplement for older people is support paid monthly to pensioners over 66 years of age and with an income of less than or equal to €6,608 per year (base value updated last January).
